XORCOM - How to Remove and Replace the Disks

Step 1:

Power off the server and remove it from the rack.

Step 2:

Remove the screws that hold the rear compartment to the body of the server. This includes the brackets for mounting the server into the racking. (there is no need to remove the screws holding on the front of the server).

Step 3:

Once all of the screws are removed, take off the rear cover of the server. You will find the hard disk drives located to the rear right hand side of the server, underneath a board, both of which are attached to a carrier.

Step 4:

Remove the LOWER screws from the carrier, as pictured above and gently lift the carrier away from the bottom of the server. The hard drives are attached to the carrier by four screws, two on either side.

Step 5:

Remove the screws holding the hard disks to the carrier (the UPPER screws) and slide the hard disk out from under the board (it is probably sensible to keep these screws apart from the others)

Step 6:

Identify which is the failing hard drive by checking the serial number. This should be the drive which was connected to the server as SDA (usually in the upper position). The serial number for this drive should be printed on the case:

The drive’s serial number is: NJG70S7C

Remove the appropriate drive by gently removing the SATA and Power cables and replace it with the new drive, then reattach the drive(s) to the carrier.

Replace the carrier in the machine and reattach the case, making sure to reinsert all of the screws in the correct places.
